All Things CHOCOLATE!

February 6, 2014 By satisfyingeats

 Chocolate Collage 3

I think chocolate is a universal language. Sure, some people don’t like it, but let’s be honest…those folks are just WEIRD (like my husband)! He really does like chocolate, but just the kind that really doesn’t have much chocolate in it at all!

raw for beauty

My theory as to why almost EVERYONE LOVES chocolate is that maybe subconsciously, our bodies crave it because it is SO healthy! Unfortunately, what should be loaded with antioxidants, magnesium, and iron, most of the chocolate we purchase in stores has been stripped of all its nutrition and is loaded with sugar, soy, and artificial flavors!

I enjoy chocolate most days. I could give it up if I had to, but I don’t. I just choose high quality chocolate that is free of soy, dairy, and is very low in sugar.  Here are some of my recommendations…

Chocolate Brands that are gluten-free and also don’t contain any soy, dairy, artificial flavors, or artificial sweeteners:

  • Terrasoul Raw Cacao (or any other Raw Cacao Powder). Raw cacao powder has not been heated and processed like unsweetened cocoa or Dutch processed cocoa, so most of the nutrients and antioxidants have been preserved. cacao-powder (1)

  • Equal Exchange 80% Extra Dark Chocolate. I LOVE this stuff!! Each square only has 1 Net Carb, and it is the best tasting chocolate I have tried. I ALWAYS have some in the pantry. Even my hubby who HATES dark chocolate “kinda” likes this brand! I am happy he doesn’t like it so he will leave it alone! 🙂 (FYI, I have seen this Chocolate Bar in Whole Foods.)

  • Equal Exchange 70% Cacao Chocolate Chips. I normally just chop up my 80% chocolate bar above to use in cookies but I was SO happy to see that Tropical Traditions has begun selling 70% Cacao Chocolate Chips! I have never seen chocolate chips (at least the REAL kind) with this amount of cacao!

  • Enjoy Life Brand Chocolate Chunks. These chips are great. They have a bit more sugar, but at least they don’t contain soy lecithin, dairy, and artificial flavoring. Stock up on them HERE. (They can also be purchased at Whole Foods.)
